Sydney Centennial Parklands

brief history ...

In 1888, a hundred years after the arrival of the First Fleet, Sir Henry Parkes (1815-1896) Premier of NSW, dedicates the Centennial Parklands area to the public. The Centennial Parklands is made up of three parks: Moore Park, Queens Park and Centennial Park, counting over 360 hectares.

In the Centennial Parklands you can find a lot of sport facilities such as golf course, athletics track, tennis courts, equestrian centre and these are just to count a few.

The Centennial Parklands are also hosting the Fox Studios Australia and are the place where different events are organized: Circus, concerts, outdoor cinema, etc.

There are many activities that are allowed in the Centennial Park. They are: BBQs and Picnics, Cross Country Routes, Cycling, Fitness Station, Golf, Horse Riding, Playgrounds, Rollerblading, Tennis, Walking Paths, Wildlife Watching.

From those, one very popular is the BBQ. Please note the following rules. You not allowed to make a fire on the grass, to use a BBQ without legs or to use a BBQ when is a total fire ban. If you plan a BBQ please check the Centennial Park web site.

How to get there
The closest CityRail stations to Centennial Parklands are Bondi Junction (the closest), followed by Central Station. There are buses going to the Centennial Parklands from many suburbs. For details, please check Centennial Park web site. See map.

Note:
Four days a year are declared Car Free Days, and you are not allowed to use the car on the internal roads of the park. Car Free Days are on the last Sunday of every season.
